HOUSE LEAGUES - NEW FOR 2012!
|
|
Elk River Baseball is re-defining our house leagues for kids 3rd grade and under. Please note the changes below. These changes are intended to help our continued focus on development for both players and coaches at these early ages. Note that these leagues are all based on the current grade of your child.
Minors (Coach Pitch) - PreK - Kindergarten:
Definition: Minors is a non-competitive “coach pitch” league focusing on baseball fundamentals.
Location: Teams are made up of players from the Elk River community, and all games are in Elk River.
Evaluations/Teams: There are no player evaluations and the League Commissioner randomly selects teams.
Practice/Game Nights: Minors will meet 1-2 nights per week (Mondays for sure) during May and June. Each night will consist of a 60 minute combined practice, followed by a 2 inning game.
Notes: This league uses a safety ball and has an end of the year jamboree.
Rookies (Machine Pitch) - 1st and 2nd grade: NEW!
Definition: Rookies is a non-competitive “machine pitch” league focusing on baseball fundamentals.
Location: Teams are made up of players from the Elk River community, and all games are in Elk River.
Evaluations/Teams: There are no player evaluations and the League Commissioner randomly selects teams.
Practice/Game Nights: Rookies will meet 1-2 nights per week (Wednesdays for sure) during May and June. Each night will consist of a 60 minute combined practice, followed by a 3 inning game.
Notes: This league uses a hard ball and has an end of the year jamboree.
Majors (Kid Pitch) - 3rd grade:
Definition: Majors continues to focus on the fundamentals of the game while introducing competitive play as players begin to pitch to each other. Scores and standings are kept.
Location: Teams are made up of players from the Elk River community, and all games are in Elk River.
Evaluations/Teams: Teams are drafted after a player evaluation.
Practice/Game Nights: Majors will have approximately 1 practice per week, and 1 6-inning game. Games are Wed nights.
Notes: This league uses a hard ball and has a mid season tournament and end of the year playoffs. |

The 2012 Travel Tryout Dates have been set, and will be the week of March 19-25. Please mark your calendars accordingly. Specific times for each age group will be posted on the website when they are finalized.

Coaches - Need to pass Concussion Test to coach in 2012!

Minnesota Concussion Law Announcement
Minnesota Legislature's New
"Concussion Law" Requires Online Training for All Coaches and Officials
and Concussion Education for all Parents and Athletes Starting this Fall
The Minnesota Legislature recently passed a
"Concussion Law" which requires any municipality, business, school
district or nonprofit organization that organizes a youth athletic
activity and charges a fee to follow the statute's requirements,
including implementing concussion training and education to improve
player safety and establish safe return-to-play policies for athletes
who sustain a concussion.
The law mandates that:
-
All coaches (head and assistants) and officials
receive concussion training and education by September 1, 2011, and
then at three-year intervals thereafter.
-
Coaches must remove an athlete from activity if
they exhibit signs, symptoms or behaviors consistent with a concussion
and/or are suspected of sustaining a concussion.
-
The law also requires an appropriate health
care professional's signature to return to play if an athlete is removed
due to a concussion or is showing signs or symptoms of a concussion.
The Concussion Education
we recommend for coaches and officials is the online video training
session developed by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the
National Federation of State High Schools. This course requires
registration but is free. Over 200,000 coaches and officials have
already successfully completed this course. The training process
involves watching a video and then successfully completing a quiz. The
entire training module can be completed in a little over a half an hour
and then participants can print out a certificate on their desktop or
print and scan the certificate to create a digital file. Concussion Course

10U Traveling |
|
This is just a clarification regarding our 10U traveling teams, as there have been some questions as to how it works.
All 9 & 10 year olds are eligible to try out for a 10U traveling team. 8 year olds must request permission from the traveling director.
We will have 1 team at the AAA level, and 1 or 2 teams at the AA level.
ALL 10U traveling teams will compete in the MYAS 10U leagues.
We will try to field 2 AA teams if the numbers and players ability is enough for both teams to be competive. The teams will be selected based on tryout scores with input from the travel director, board member and coaches.
Our two 10 AA teams will be split up equally based on tryout scores, NOT by age.
Anyone not making a traveling team, will be placed into our competive house leagues. |
